Mascara is answer #1 in the ‘what makeup item would you take to a desert island’ question. And mascaras differ greatly in performance, gentleness and overall effect. Mascara should give that final ‘wow’ to your face; I’m not interested in wimpy looking lashes. As a pro, I need a terrific waterproof mascara for actresses and brides, but it has to be safe for contact lens wearers and easy enough to remove once they want to take it off. “They’re Real” by Benefit certainly delivers. My own eyes are sensitive so I’m cautious about perfumes and nasty additives in makeup; but this mascara gave me no problems, so I began using it in my professional kit over a year ago to rave reviews. It gives that lush, black, full look I love and separates each lash very well so they look curled and lifted. The product is easily buildable and doesn’t flake or smudge, but can clump if you apply too slowly and it dries as you work. The applicator brush is pretty interesting and partly responsible for the dramatic effect. Although I’ve found that you can create a softer effect with a single light coating of it, if you don’t need to go to the Emmy’s that particular night. For me – I love to have awesome lashes ANY night of the week! Pick up “They’re Real” at Benefit Cosmetics or Sephora for $23, which I feel is a good price for a truly effective mascara.
